Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally here and features the return of the fan-favorite third-person mode that was included in the original 2009 release. While you can’t freely swap between first and third-person perspectives at any time, you can play most of your favorite Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer game modes in third-person as long as you choose the right things before queueing up for a match. The best part is that third-person mode is a fully-supported multiplayer feature, so all of your loadouts and progression will still carry over. Here’s how to play third-person mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

How to Play Modern Warfare 2 in Third-Person Mode

To play third-person mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you have to select the Third-Person Moshpit playlist from the multiplayer menu. This is the only playlist that allows for third-person gameplay. It includes popular modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination but is sadly lacking some modes like Prisoner Rescue and Knock Out. Hopefully, Infinity Ward will add more third-person playlists to the game in the future since the mode seems to be popular among fans.

Sadly, the third-person mode is not available for any of Modern Warfare 2’s other game modes, so you can’t play the single-player campaign or co-op Spec Ops mode from a third-person perspective. Again, this may change as Infinity Ward releases post-launch updates, but this remains a restriction for now. The same goes for Warzone 2 and DMZ, both of which will restrict players to the typical first-person point of view.

At the very least, all of Modern Warfare 2’s maps and weapons are available for use when playing in third-person mode. Only the game modes are limited at the moment. You can jump between first and third-person playlists whenever you like and continue to earn battle pass XP, make progress on camo challenges, and level up your account.
